Irish Bear Kilts
Classic Cut with Irish tricolour piping

irishclassic45.jpgirishclassic.jpg

The Irish traditionally wore solid coloured kilts. Irish tartans are a much more modern invention.
Before his passing, the O' Dinan researched and found solid colours associated with different Irish family names. I'm hoping the research on this will pop up soon.
It is widely held that saffron is the colour for a traditional Irish kilt because saffron was used in an earlier Irish garment called the leine. Greens, blues, and even reds were also fairly common in Irish kilts.
I designed my Irish kilt before I special ordered the saffron fabric you'll see below. The pictures show a Classic Cut kilt but it is also available in the Raven Cut and the Formal Cut.
Let me know if you're interested in other colours with the tricolour piping.

At last! An inexpensive saffron kilt!

I had to special order a lot of this poly/viscose fabric but ...
Bear Kilts is the first and only place to buy an inexpensive saffron kilt.

You can now buy an inexpensive kilt that will show your Irish pride and still be true to your roots! Saffron is the traditional colour for Irish kilts. It is the colour worn by the Irish long before there was such a thing as a kilt.

I love this colour! The light reflects off saffron in an odd way, changing the colours of the folds in a way that is more pronounced than most colours. At times it seems to ripple with waves of orange and brown.
(Kiltmaker's choice. I'm keeping this first one!)
